MY STORY

GOING?DIGITAL&ONLINE

Spirit of Nepal, Kathmandu valley, 2017

Unfulfilled dreams are an incomplete task. I dream whenever possible. I am not much of a sleeper, so at night I am usually following the stars; I compensate these by daydreaming. It suites me fine, interest- and desire-wise.

Daydreaming next to Boudhanath Stupa, Nepal, Karhmandu, 2017

Photographing, traveling with writing on top are a perfect match. With dreaming as well. Some dreams are everlasting, fulfilled yet not meant to be completed.

The traveler, Guatemala, Antigua, 2015

I’ve tried to make this first entry come out chronologically ‘correct’ but as usually, I’ve changed my mind – my last name is sticking to me for my whole life, why change the sequence? It’s Mišmaš.

Transport, Philipphines, 2012

Path led me to the Philippines for the second time and after my first experience with the islands, I needed a bit of convincing, too. We chose to visit the south and the east – Central Visayas and Northern Mindanao (Palawan and Central Luzon on my first trip).

Stranger (Philippines, Mindanao, Surigao, 2012)

I caught myself in this image when we were in Mindanao’s northern city of Surigao. It wasn’t my day at all. Felt exhausted and hardly waiting to storm away, I wasn’t feeling safe and that probably caused tension visible on the outside as well. I finally found a smile in a form of a cute girl coming across the street, grabbed my camera which was safely tucked away in my backpack, and shot off a couple of times.

Prayer, Cambodia, Siem Reap, 2013

As this image shows I was not aligned with the environment around me – and it’s perfectly fine not to always feel OK – or her eyes were just reflecting my thoughts of the day.

Family triangle, Indonesia, Bali, 2011

Our guide read that most travelers who wind up in Ubud, stay more then planned. I don’t think too many of them stayed two weeks on their first visit.

Ubud in many ways isn’t your regular Indonesian island as Kuta is not really Bali.

It is a pristine vibe of the past combined with a scent of incense that defines Ubud positively and on the other hand it’s the ‘modern’ vibe of Kuta in a labyrinth of surfboards that doesn’t quite fit my frame.

Happiness, good will and love are bursting out of every stone, dish, temple or even a rice paddy on every step. I had an opportunity to capture it in an enchanting town.

This story still keeps me up at night, processing endless thoughts. I find within his eyes all of the emotions I can imagine he went through. Dedicated, soulful and determined to spear his way through a week-long hindu festival Thaipusam in Malaysia, Penang.

When you believe, Malaysia, Penang, Thaipusam, 2012

His eyes show me a story of my determination as well. It wasn’t an easy task, that I must admit. I was literally sweating out.

Passenger, Bangkok, Thailand, 2015

I enjoy all kinds of markets. Recently, besides digital-photography-related markets, I appreciate colorful ones the most. Playing hide&seek with shadows, I sometimes encounter a sunshine who offers a golden hour effect at midday, it’s just perfect.

Ancient architect, Cambodia, Angkor Wat, 2013

Someone I think highly of recently said camera is always lying to you and it’s deceiving by design.

Welcome to Guatemala, 2015

I reluctantly concur and I also know I’m still at the beginning of this evolving interest of mine, but it has already taught me that my quest for a perfect light and a perfect image, may result in finding a different me on the other side of a lens.

Timeless, Cappadocia, Turkey, 2014

But for now I don’t need to worry about that since my aim is for the journey, not a destination.

Today my favorite photography quote is by exquisite storytelling photographer I had the pleasure to meet and work with.

“You’ve got to push yourself harder. You’ve got to start looking for pictures nobody else could take. You’ve got to take the tools you have and probe deeper.”
