COMEDY OF PARENTHOOD

Reflecting as we progress at full speed

Life, they say, is like a box of chocolates—you never quite know what you’re going to get. Yet, realistically, it often feels more like a box of mixed metaphors. One moment, you’re cruising down life’s motorway; the next, you’re stalled in a traffic jam of self-discovery. That’s precisely where I found myself: standing at a crossroads, questioning how I’d ended up there, and laughing at the absurdity of it all. Time slips away when you’re caught up chasing deadlines, hardly noticing the journey.

Reflecting on the five years between my global travels and becoming a mother, I see a period of deep transformation. I used this time to pause, reevaluate my life, and align my path with what truly resonated. Letting go of the familiar and embracing uncertainty became my guide, helping me discover my authentic self. Those stories from this chapter may seem extraordinary, but each contains a kernel of truth. By intentionally stepping away from a path that no longer suited me, I opened the door to profound self-exploration and a more fulfilling experience as a mother.

As a storyteller, I was always on the move—exploring new cultures, meeting incredible people, and capturing the spirit of distant lands. Now, my adventures involve packing nappies and snacks for outings with my boys. The world remains full of wonder—now, I see it through the eyes of a mother. Motherhood is a hilarious journey full of surprises. Recently, I attempted to meditate with my toddler, who turned my peaceful practice into a laughter-filled “om” chorus. These small moments remind me to embrace chaos and enjoy the humour. Parenting is a comedy of errors—and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Blending humour and spirituality in parenting isn’t just delightful—it’s essential. It’s about finding lightness amidst the daily chaos and embracing the profound lessons life offers. Every chapter of my journey feels like a quest, with purpose woven into each search for meaning in every experience. I aim to create a home where laughter flourishes and spiritual values guide us like stars. This delicate balance—juggling everyday chaos with moments of reflection—keeps me grounded and connected to my inner self.

When it comes to capturing these memories, my heavy camera stays tucked away in a cupboard. Honestly, I’d rather spend my time teaching my boys life skills—such as negotiating for extra pudding or avoiding chores—rather than lugging around that camera. Instead, I jot down our daily lessons and take simple photos with my trusty iPhone, which suits this new adventure perfectly.

Of course, balancing everything requires wisdom and practice—like a seasoned juggler calmly smiling while keeping all the balls in the air. The reward? A connection that extends beyond the everyday and allows us to explore the depths of our relationships. And, honestly, who knew that managing tantrums and bedtime bargaining could become a spiritual practice? It’s all in a day’s work for a parent!

As I begin this new chapter, I sincerely thank my family and friends for their steadfast support, as well as everyone who believed in me during tough times. Thank you for being part of my journey and helping me face challenges.

Let’s navigate life’s twists and turns together, embracing its beauty and challenges while finding joy in creating. Ultimately, our words, stories, and connections matter most. Isn’t that what life is about? Evolving, adapting, and facing uncertainty with heart. As a traveller, I’ve learned how vital it is to know where I am and where I want to go. Here’s to the beauty of the present, the promise of the future, and creating something meaningful together.

From now on, I’ll simply write about whatever comes to mind—whatever feels worth sharing at the moment. After all, what I’ve learned throughout life usually emerges right here, right now… and I’ll often jump back and forth in time, comparing thoughts from then and now, before I was a traveller, a mum, or somewhere in between.

Let’s be honest: I’m not the youngest anymore (okay, I am—a young parent to my kids!), so I figure it’s best to jot these things down before dementia sneaks up on me. Why share my thoughts with the world? Well, why not! 😃
