I’m really frustrated with how slow the airport X-ray procedures can be, especially since they often take up so much of my valuable time. Travelling with 15 kg of photography gear means I’ve experienced officers taking over an hour just to inspect each lens. We all deserve a more efficient system that respects our time and protects our equipment. Let’s come together to advocate for better travel solutions so we can fully enjoy the incredible stories the world has to offer.
The weight of the camera gear, together with the backpacks, completes the scene as we search for a car that can handle all this weight while also taking us to destinations not listed by tour companies or on old military maps.
My travel companion, transporter, and accommodation were all arranged to depart for Slovenia right on time.
The 4×4 icon, Mercedes G Professional, has been upgraded with an inspiring living cell, enabling us to select even the most demanding adventures ourselves.
Introducing the innovative dwelling concept: it’s so spacious, you might need a map to locate the bathroom! This beauty lets you explore the most distant corners of the Earth, rain, shine, or even during a snowstorm that would make the Abominable Snowman reconsider his holiday plans.
Now, don’t get me started on the solar panels—they’re about as reliable as a cat on a lead! I nearly turned into a human popsicle once when the temperature dropped below 35 degrees. If your heating plate decides to throw a tantrum in that chill, congratulations—you’ve officially joined the frozen food section!
The weight of the empty vehicle with two spare wheels is 3,000 kg.
Length: 5.62 m.

When the roof is closed, the height measures 1.80 m at the front section (toilet, kitchen, bathroom) and 1.62 m in the sleeping area. Interior width: 1.90 m. Interior length: 2.90 m.
Imagine this: a movable roof held in place by hinges that swings open like the door of the coolest treehouse you’ve ever seen! But let’s be honest, after six months of globetrotting, we had to splurge on new gas struts. Apparently, they don’t like being jolted around in places like Novosibirsk, where the temperature drops to a brisk -32 degrees. Talk about a chill!
Regarding the walls, they are made from canvas, with vents and windows to let in fresh air (or icy drafts, depending on the weather). We also have removable internal insulation—like a cosy blanket for when it gets too cold! Plus, our white polyester furniture adds a modern touch, perfect for entertaining friends while secretly wondering if you can survive another winter without turning into a popsicle!
The kitchen features a sleek stainless steel sink with a practical mixing tap, an efficient built-in hob with two powerful burners, and a spacious 49L compressor fridge. It is designed to improve your cooking experience.
Experience efficient heating and hot water systems with an advanced thermostat and a specially designed kit for optimal performance at higher altitudes. If I check on introductions before use, I would not feel like an ice cube in most Southern countries, where we always experienced failure of hitting.
The dining room features two benches that seat four people, along with a removable table and an additional stand for outdoor use. We also use them to store food, clothes, and all photography and computer equipment.
A pull-out bed is ideal for two adults, measuring 140 cm wide and 190 cm long. This spacious bed provides a comfortable and restful sleep experience when you are very tired. There are always advantages and disadvantages to everything. You can’t expect a home bed, but it is built robustly and suitable for off-road use, where different perspectives matter.

Setting aside bureaucracy, it took days to pack our camper, a task I’ve been working on for months. Adjusting to the limited space for our year-long trip required mental effort, especially since we had to pack for different weather conditions. I often had to choose between a camera lens and a warm jacket. Sometimes, I wish I had taken the coat, as I nearly froze due to our failing heater. I dislike the cold, which reminds me of surviving below forty degrees or sleeping with the toxic smell of diesel.

Whenever I experience travel anxiety, I check everything three times, think it over multiple times, and ask friends and close family members to occasionally help with watering the plants and caring for the pets. Whenever I leave home, I face the same problem. I review my to-do list carefully, ticking off each item, but it never feels quite enough. I repeat this process three more times until I hear the final tick of departure.
Once you’ve checked it five times and heard the reassuring hum of the engine, it’s time to get in the car and start the mission you’ve been eagerly waiting for.
