After a lively photoshoot with Peter and our former President, Dr. Borut Pahor, an eager lady approached me, keen for her daughter to learn storytelling through photography. Our connection was instant, filled with laughter and shared life stories.
As I shared my adventures, she expressed her worries about her daughter starting a study phase—because, let’s be honest, we all know how quickly that can turn into a Netflix binge fest!
Recognising the potential for creativity to flourish, she was interested in one-on-one photography workshops for her daughter after returning from school in Austria. Our mission? Swap “energy” drinks for a camera lens and capture memories instead of consuming them!
While balancing photography clients and home renovations in Slovenia, I finally met Tjaša, a shy girl with vibrant green hair from Radovljica. After finishing with Peter, I visited Dom Janeta Benedikta, the ideal place to observe how she connects with the camera. I immediately appreciated her quirky perspectives and enthusiasm for the workshop.
She began her photography journey with a phone camera, eager to understand the maths behind photography and to tell captivating stories without words, perfectly suited to her introverted style. She was seeking self-expression while keeping her creative space cosy and safe!
By her second visit, she had already upgraded to a gently used camera, fully embracing her passion for photography. Who knew a little maths could spark such creativity? Tjaša was ready to capture the world, one click at a time!
Her quick understanding and enthusiasm inspired me to elevate our lessons further. I first challenged her with a film camera and then a DSLR with the screen turned off so she could tap into her instincts and math skills.
As she became more confident in creating her stories through the lens, she handled the camera with the skill of a seasoned professional. I half-expected her to pull a rabbit out of the camera!
What made our workshops special wasn’t just Tjaša’s quick mastery, contagious energy, and fresh outlook. Her unique way of capturing abstract and detailed geometric shapes turned our sessions into a vibrant tapestry of storytelling.
I could see her mind at work as she experimented with different angles and had an epiphany, recalling my early days in Southeast Asia.
I have decided to bridge the gap between the young and the old, merging “energy” with “experience,” so I introduced Tjaša to my inventive friend Peter. The moment they started exchanging ideas, the atmosphere in the room became electric—I nearly had to call the power company!
I knew Peter would enjoy her company; I’d seen him light up when lecturing schoolchildren, thriving on interaction and on exchanging ideas. Everyone has something unique to offer, and I love learning from people of all ages.
Children thrive on stories of triumphs and challenges, absorbing lessons from both the past and the future. I felt like a diode, transmitting all the wisdom onto my memory card, as if it were the latest viral TikTok trend!
Watching Tjaša grow from a shy girl into a lively individual, confidently engaging with Peter, filled me with pride. So, whether you’re wielding a fancy camera or taking photos on your phone, remember: every click is a story waiting to be told!
Connecting generations is a rewarding journey that demonstrates how linking different age groups can enhance creativity and keep life lively and engaging! Who knew a touch of camera magic could spark such a monumental transformation?
